In July 2012, GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Zofran, agreed to pay the sum of $3 Billion to resolve its criminal and civil liability arising from the unlawful promotion of certain prescription drugs including Zofran.

The Dangers of Zofran Use

Zofran (ondansetron) is indicated for the prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy.  Zofran's manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), unlawfully marketed the drug for treating morning sickness in pregnant women without ever having approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In July 2012, GSK agreed to pay $3 Billion to resolve its criminal and civil liability arising from the unlawful promotion of certain prescription drugs including Zofran.

Medical studies show a causal link between the use of Zofran during the first trimester of pregnancy and certain birth injuries including cleft lip/cleft palate and heart malformations.
